GCREA Support Programs

     Scholarship Program

The generous contributions of GCREA members helped us reach our Scholarship goal. From contributions generated by the Scholarship Fund Drive, we are now able to use $4,500 each year for three scholarships without endangering our investment. This will fund two teacher scholarships and one student scholarship at $1,500 each. These monies are held in Vanguard Wellesley Mutual Income Fund, Southern Company, and Brand Bank. Donations are always welcome. Send to Beverly Dryden, Treasurer.

                                         Teacher Scholarship Recipients

Kimberly Dorminey, who teaches 4th-5th grade special education at Sugar Hill Elementary, has taught for seven years and is working toward an Educational Specialist Degree at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.  She was Teacher of the Year for her School this year where she is highly respected by students, parents and faculty.

Kenneth Whaley is a seventh grade gifted accelerated math teacher at Trickum Middle School, where he has taught for nine years.  He is now enrolled as a Candidate for a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Tift College of Education, Mercer University, in Atlanta.  His dissertation topic involves examining how motivating styles of teachers affect student motivation.

GCREA is proud to assist these two fine educators as they help students reach their potential.

Student Scholarship Recipient

Blake T. Edwards, who plays with the North Gwinnett High School Jazz Ensemble, was Top Student in Band (2009), received the Honor Band Award (2008-2011), the Georgia Music Educators All State Band (2008-2011), and the UGA Honor Ensemble Award (2008-2011).  As an outstanding student, Blake is graduating with a GPA of 3.97 and will be attending the University of Georgia.  Blake has been a dedicated student and we look forward to seeing him become an excellent teacher.
