Hands
Are Not for Hitting Program
Phyllis Caffey
is the coordinator of the Hands are not for Hitting program. Ms. Caffey and volunteers presented programs on bullying and
domestic violence at 21 schools performing 61 shows to over 11,000 students during the 2010-2011 school year. The
program, sponsored by the Gwinnett County Solicitor's Office, runs from October through March.
This program has expanded
to invite children to visit Back Stage, inviting "star teachers" to perform as puppeteers and class team leader
participation.
We are always looking
for volunteers and if you would like to be a puppeteer that helps children deal with bullying issues, please sign up.

Children's Shelter-Where Hope Lives
IN 2010-2011, GCREA members helped the Gwinnett
Children's Shelter by donating $834.99. In addition, members continuously delivered clothing and school supplies to the luncheons.
Members can continue to bring these items to each meeting and they will be delivered to the Shelter in September, February,
and March. Banks will be placed on the tables for monetary contributions. The Gwinnett Children's Shelter provides a
variety of Community Out Reach programs. They include Runaway Prevention and Intervention through the Safe Place Program,
Parenting Classes, Volunteer Opportunities, and In-Home Family Support and Counseling. Contact
Linda McQuaig at dlmca@bellsouth.net for more information.
Ronald
McDonald House
Linda McQuaig will also collect
can lid pull tops to take to the Ronald McDonald House. This is a fund raiser that doesn't cost money, just
effort. Bring your tabs to each GCREA meeting that you attend and she will take them to the Ronald McDonald Collection
Point periodically. The Ronald McDonald House benefits a great deal from your donations.
Read
Across Gwinnett
Each March, GCREA members participate in the Read
Across Gwinnett Program. We hope you will volunteer to join us in this effort to get students excited about reading
and to make contact with children in public schools. Children love grandparents!! Patricia Turner is the
coordinator for this project. Be sure to contact her at pturner@yahoo.com or 404-271-3750.
