LEONA WILLIAMS
4th President
1978-1980I am proud to be a member of the Gwinnett County Retired Teachers
Association. I joined at the second meeting in November, 1972. I was pleased when they chose me to be vice-president when
Crawford Puckett was president. Later, I was chosen to be president in 1978 - 1980. Maude Padgett served with me as our vice-president.
She had many interesting and inspiring programs.
We all worked hard to bring about the passage of a bill in the Georgia Legislature
to make it possible for teachers to continue to purchase Health Insurance at a reasonable price upon retiring. We were especially
grateful to the Legislative Chairman, Jane Alexander, and her committee for their efforts.
We were given an Award of Excellence at the State Convention of Georgia Retired
Teachers Association during these years. In later years it has been my pleasure to serve as Devotional Chairman at the regular
quarterly meetings.
