The 2007 - 2008 officers
for the Gwinnett County Retired Educators A ssociation were installed May 18th at Hamilton Mill Restaurant Dacula, GA. The
officers for were President- Nona Patterson, Vice President- Diane Lockwood; Secretary-Linda McQuaig; Treasurer- Beverly Dryden.
Gwinnett Board of Commissioners authorized November 4 ,2007 as Retired
Educators Day. There are over 16,000 members in Georgia.
The theme of this year was "Celebrate”.
There were many memorable programs. Lori Znicker was in charge of presenting
the Grayson High School Chorus. Susan Reed and Anthony Rodriguez discussed the outreach services of the Aurora Theater.
In this year's programs we participated in Emeritus and Memorial programs.
We
instituted several scholarships. Reid Mullins received the Georgia
E L Membership Service Award at the Waverly Hotel in Atlanta GA on February 3, 2008.
Sybil Deaton and Phyllis Caffey were very active in "Read Across Gwinnett"
and
the program "Hands Are Not for Hitting".
Awards presented to Gwinnett County Retired Educators Association at
the State
Convention were: Handbook; Newsletter; Membership; History; Unit of
Excellence Award; Scrapbook; Public Relations; and Scholarship Award.
Several members attended the State convention which was held in Athens,
Georgia.
