12th President

1993 - 1994

The 1993 - 1994 officers for the Gwinnett County Retired Teachers Association were installed on May 21, 1993. The officers for that year were President-Mary Long; President Elect Gailya Raines; Secretary - Jo Clifton; Treasurer-Jackie Perry; Immediate Past President - Don Burt. Committee Chairmen were Sunshine-Annie Frances Flanigan; Scholarship-George and Esterlee Post; Devotional-Frances Medlock; Membership - Jane Alexander; Community - Christine Blaney and Luella Germain; Senior Honor Nominees-Ruth Davenport.

All regular meetings were held at the Falcon Inn, Suwanee. On December 1, 1993, a brunch was held at the Long home on 288 Craig Drive. Elected officials were invited to attend this social meeting, and those who attended were state representatives: Brooks Coleman, Jere Johnson, Ralph Johnson, and Ron Crews. Dates of the 1993-1994 meetings were September 17, October 15, February 18, April 15, and May 20. Time of meetings was 11:30 A.M. A special Reunion Luncheon for Retired Gwinnett County Teachers was held on November 16, at Gwinnett Place Morrison*s Cafeteria, after which teachers attended a Presentation Ceremony at Mechanicsville School in Norcross.

Reid Mullins was State GRTA President during 1993-1994, and Gwinnett members hosted the hospitality room at the Radisson Inn during the GRTA State Convention in Macon. Those attending the 36th annual state convention were: Jane Alexander, Annie Frances Flanigan, Mary Long, Jackie Perry, Katherine Carlyle, Reid and Deloris Mullins, and Don and Katie Herndon.

Awards presented to Gwinnett County Retired Teachers Association at the State Convention were Area Scrapbook Award; Area Newsletter Award; Unit of Highest Distinction Award; President*s Membership Award and President's Achievement Award.

During this year we held a successful auction in October and funded a $600 scholarship which was awarded to Trista Barfield, a Brookwood High School Senior. Also, the Association contributed $25 toward the purchase of a piano for the Bethesda Senior Center. The Memorial Service in May was conducted in memory of Dorothy S. "Dimples" Pearson.

Mary is the 2002-2003 GREA President-Elect.
