ANNIE
FRANCES FLANIGAN
7th President
1984 -
1986
I was the seventh president of the Gwinnett County
Retired Teachers Association in 1984 - 1986. There are so many things to remember. We were awarded recognition as a Unit of
Highest Distinction for our efforts during these years.
Some of the accomplishments that helped us to
achieve this award:
1) We originated a newsletter, a quarterly report
of the activities of the members and highlights of interest. This report was mailed to each member.
2) We established the Life Membership.
3) We began a scholarship fund for deserving high
school students. We had a booth at the Elisha Winn Fair to raise funds for this project.
4) Loretta Roberts planned many interesting tours.
5) Grace Puckett, Dorothy Byrd, Helen Powell,
and Mary Pickens helped us reach out to people in hospitals and nursing homes.
6) Omie Jackson kept a beautiful scrapbook.
7) We revised the Constitution and Bylaws. We
are indebted to Leona Williams, Florence Garner, and Ruth Puckett for this task.
I also received help from so many people who were
not officers. People like Mary Guiney, Mary Alice Juhan, and oh, so many more, who quietly went about helping to make my presidency
a pleasure.
